History and Purpose of Gargoyles

Gargoyles originated in the early 13th century in gothic architecture. The name Gargoyle is only for the architectural deviced used as a water spout, and the other 'gargoyles' that don't have that function is called a Grotesque which can be used as a decoration as it's main purpose. Gargoyles have two purposes, a practical and a mythical. The practical function is to carry water out and away from building structures. For mythical function of the gargoyles is to ward off evil spirits.
